Travelling with children? This one's for you. The Central Zoo in Jawalakhel started life in 1932 as the private collection of a Rana prime minister, and today it's run by the National Trust for Nature Conservation. It covers about six hectares around a lake and is home to animals from all over Nepal, including Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinos, red pandas, leopards and plenty of birds.
After the zoo, your guide will take you ten minutes up the road to Patan Durbar Square, so your morning ends with temples as well as tigers.
