Want the best view of the valley without breaking a sweat? On Kathmandu's south-western rim, a cable car climbs about 2.5 km from Thankot to the top of Chandragiri in around ten minutes. From the summit, at 2,551 m, you'll see the whole of Kathmandu spread out below you and, on a clear day, a long line of snowy peaks stretching from the Annapurnas to the Everest region.
At the top, you can visit the Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple, wander the viewpoint paths and have lunch at the restaurant before riding back down. For the clearest views, go on a morning between October and May.
