Kathmandu's old bazaar is best seen on foot, and this walk is the perfect introduction. It starts in the Garden of Dreams, a restored neoclassical garden built in 1920 on the edge of Thamel. From there you'll dive into the lanes of the old town: Thahiti's stupa, the spice and brass market of Asan, courtyards hidden behind narrow doorways, and Indra Chowk, before finishing in Kathmandu Durbar Square.
It makes a brilliant first morning in Kathmandu. You'll get your bearings, and you'll know exactly where you want to come back to later.
