Bhaktapur is the valley's best-kept old town. Cars are kept out of the centre, the brick lanes are full of life, and potters still turn their wheels out in the open square. With your guide, you'll wander from Durbar Square, with its 55-window palace and Golden Gate, to Taumadhi Square and the five-tiered Nyatapola temple, then on to Dattatreya Square and its beautifully carved peacock window.
From Bhaktapur it's a 25-minute drive up to Changu Narayan, a Vishnu temple on a ridge above the valley. Its courtyard is crowded with stone sculpture dating from the 5th century onwards, and the pillar inscription of King Manadeva, dated 464 AD, is the oldest dated inscription in Nepal. Not a bad morning's sightseeing!

- Guided walk through Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square, Pottery Square and Dattatreya Square.

- Drive to Changu Narayan and visit the temple courtyard.
- Back at your hotel at about 3 PM.

Questions about this tour
What should I wear?
Something that covers your shoulders and knees, and shoes you can slip on and off easily. Some temples will ask you to take off your shoes and any leather items before you go in.
Are entrance fees included?
No. You'll pay the fees in Nepali rupees at each gate, and your guide will show you where. Hang on to your ticket, though, as some sites check it more than once.
Can we change the order or add a stop?
Of course! The tour is private, so your guide can swap sites around or add a short stop on the way, as long as everything still fits into the day.
